Council President Cameron Emond opened the Council Meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.
The December 2023 and January 2024 Financials were presented for approval. Council Member Darwin Miller made a motion to approve the financials for December 2023 and January 2024. Council Vice President Michael Johnson second the motion. Motion carried 4-0.
Wastewater Superintendent Jeff Province reported that he has been having issues with part of the Wastewater plant. Jeff stated that he is working on getting these issues fixed.
Town Marshal Jared Baer collected bids for the Ford Taurus. The Town only received one bid, for $6500.00. Council Member Darwin Miller made a motion to accept the bid for $6500.00. Council Member Rex Pearson second the motion. Motion carried 4-0.
Sam Pinkerton reported, on behalf of the ambulance department, that everything is going well.
Fire Chief Kenneth Burns reported that he recently replaced batteries in some of the fire trucks.
Marilyn Maxwell stated that the Mainstreet Committee received a grant for $1000, with the help of RWCDC, for the Wolcott Warm Welcome Baskets.
Clerk Treasurer Judy Thomas announced that she has hired Karie Holder as a Deputy Clerk and has hired a cleaner for the building, as well. Judy brought to the Council’s attention that she was under the impression that she would be covered under health insurance, starting on her first day in office. Health insurance does not cover the town employees until 30 days after their hire date. Since Judy was told that her coverage would start immediately, she requested that the Town pay for s portion of the medical bills that she accrued during the month of January. After some discussion, Council Member Darwin Miller made a motion for the Town to pay $2946.27 of Judy’s medical bills. Council Member Betty Hoster second the motion. Motion carried 4-0.
Sam Pinkerton notified the Council that the Ambulance Department is looking at purchasing an IPad, for the ambulance. Sam asked the Council if the IPad would be able to be added to the Town’s Verizon account. After much discussion, it was decided that the issue will be discussed at the next Ambulance meeting.
The Council received three applicants for the Street Department position, and will be conducting interviews on Thursday, February 29th.
The TRECS Collection Agreement was presented for approval. This agency will help take care of delinquent water bills. Council Vice President Michael Johnson made a motion to accept the TRECS Agreement. Council Member Darwin Miller second the motion. Motion carried 4-0.
Utility Clerk Breanna Plantenga told the council that there will be a Fiberoptic internet company coming to the next meeting to inquire about putting fiberoptic internet in Wolcott.
Clerk Treasurer Judy Thomas swore in Deputy Clerk Karie Holder for her Oath of Office.
